Paturel spera per lo stesso effetto rookie nel 2018 MXGP

Tre dei piloti che si sono scontrati nella classe MX2 e nella categoria premier per il 2018 mirano a continuare la tendenza dei “rookies” a creare un impatto immediato e sensazionale in MXGP e Benoit Paturel è in grado di fare dei risultati. Il pilota 23 enne dovrà allontanarsi dal team MX2 Kemea Yamaha dove è emerso come vero vincitore dei Gran Premi e pilota da podio nelle ultime tre stagioni a causa della sua età e spera di assicurarsi le moto giuste e il sostegno per continuare lo sviluppo .
Paturel sarà seguito da Julien Lieber e Jeremy Seewer, tutti protagonisti nella lotta al titolo MX2, così per il 2018 andranno sulle 450, ma la sua dimensione e la tecnica dovrebbero essere buona per la moto più grande e dove potrebbe seguire l’esempio del countryman Romain Febvre, che è arrivato terzo nella serie MX2 nel 2014 e ha spazzato a una serie di ottimi risultati e alla fine prese il titolo MXGP nel 2015.
Dopo un forte duello per la vittoria con Pauls Jonass al Grand Prix di apertura stagionale del Qatar, Paturel ha lottato con il suo rivale per la stessa serie di punti. #6 è stato in gran parte limitato con le sue partenze di gara, ma la sua velocità non è stata messa in dubbio come ha dimostrato dalla sua carica da ultimo al settimo posto nella seconda manche ad Ottobiano dopo un primo incidente, come le prestazioni simili in Russia e Messico. Paturel dovrebbe aver preso più podi nel 2017, ma rimane uno dei più brillanti piloti da MXGP, le squadre lo considerano la prossima grande sorpresa con grosso potenziale. Jeffrey Herlings, Max Anstie e Arnaud Tonus hanno tutti assaggiato lo champagne nella MXGP nel loro periodo di transizione da 250 a 450 e può essere del tutto fattibile.
Seewer salterà nel set-up MXGP di Suzuki, molto probabilmente alle spese di Kevin Strijbos, mentre sono noti i piani di Lieber, ma potrebbe correre su un 450 dalla sua struttura di un team esistente. Paturel è in discussione con diverse squadre per il 2018 come la stagione pazza dei Gran Premi, così rimane in gran parte instabile; Solo Tonus ha esteso con Yamaha già confermato durante la settimana.
“Ci sentiamo entusiasti delle opportunità di Benoit”, ha commentato esclusivamente il suo agente Gerard Valat. “È stata una stagione difficile finora in alcuni momenti, ma è uno dei piloti più forti e più capaci della classe e portarlo in una divisione MXGP molto competitiva è qualcosa che di cui non abbiamo paura. Benoit ha ancora molto da mostrare in MX2 quest’anno, ma speriamo di confermare la sua sella per la prossima stagione molto presto e porterà più interesse al campo MXGP “.
Dal 2009 solo tre piloti hanno vinto il campionato MXGP (ex MX1) e tutti e tre hanno gestito l’avventura nel loro anno da rookie: Tony Cairoli nel ’09, Romain Febvre nel 2015 e Tim Gajser nel 2016.

Paturel hoping for same 2018 MXGP rookie effect

Three of the riders due to bump out of the MX2 class and into the premier category for 2018 will be aiming to continue the recent trend for ‘rookies’ to create an immediate and sensational impact in MXGP and Benoit Paturel is well placed to make a dent in the results sheet. The 23 year old will have to edge away from the MX2 Kemea Yamaha team where he emerged as a genuine Grand Prix talent and podium finisher in the past three seasons due to his age and is hoping to secure the right machinery and backing to continue his development.
Paturel will be joined by Julien Lieber and Jeremy Seewer – all protagonists and trophy-lifters in the current MX2 campaign – for 2018 on the 450s but his size and technique should bode well for the bigger motorcycle and where he could follow the example set by countryman Romain Febvre, who finished third in the 2014 MX2 series and swept to a series of excellent results and eventually the MXGP title in 2015.
After a strong duel for victory with Pauls Jonass at the season-opening Grand Prix of Qatar Paturel has struggled to match his rival for the same streak of points and prizes. #6 has largely been restricted with his race starts but his speed has not been in doubt as shown by his charge from last to seventh place in the second moto at Ottobiano after a first lap crash and similar performances in Russia and Mexico. Paturel should have bagged more than his two podium finishes so far in 2017 but remains one of the brightest up-comers to MXGP for teams and brands considering the next ‘big surprise’ and untapped potential. Jeffrey Herlings, Max Anstie and Arnaud Tonus have all tasted MXGP champagne in their maiden term to further support the notion that the transition from 250 to 450 can be entirely beneficial.
Seewer will jump into Suzuki’s MXGP set-up, most probably at the expense of Kevin Strijbos, while little is known of Lieber’s plans but he could run a 450 from his existing team framework. Paturel has been in discussion with several squads for 2018 as the Grand Prix silly season remains largely unsettled; only Tonus’ extended stay with Yamaha being confirmed this week.
“We feel excited about Benoit’s possibilities,” commented his agent Gerard Valat exclusively. “It has been a tough season so far in a few ways but he is one of the fittest and most capable riders in the class and to take that into a very competitive MXGP division is something we won’t be afraid of. Benoit still has plenty to show in MX2 this year but we hope to confirm his saddle for next season very soon and he will bring yet more depth to the MXGP field.”
Since 2009 only three riders have won the MXGP (formerly MX1) championship and all three managed the feat in their rookie year: Tony Cairoli in ’09, Febvre in 2015 and Tim Gajser in 2016.
