Ciao Jeremy, non una ottima trasferta negli Stati Uniti per te. Sei comunque riuscito a conquistare il secondo posto nel Campionato del Mondo. Com’è andata questa stagione per te? Come ti aspettavi?
Si non sono neanche io contento di queste ultime gare, l’obiettivo era il podio ma la sfortuna mi ha cambiato i piani. A Charlotte ero senza freno anteriore nella prima manche e ho avuto altri problemi alla moto nella seconda. A Glen Helen mi hanno buttato fuori nel primo giro di gara1 e ho dovuto recuperare faticosamente. Il secondo posto me lo ero già assicurato ad Assen quindi non mi dovevo preoccupare. In generale riguardo all’intera stagione sono contento, l’obiettivo era arrivare nei top3 ed arrivare spesso a podio. Ho fatto 10 podii e son diventato Vice Campione del Mondo. Sicuramente ci sono sempre opportunità di migliorare, soprattutto in alcune gare di cui non sono contento per niente.

Tre degli ultimi 4 rounds si sono disputati su tracciati artificiali, in stadi. Qual è la tua opinione riguardo a questi tracciati ed alla direzione che la MXGP sta prendendo?
Non lo so. Io sono ancora un fan dei tracciati old school. Potete dirmi quello che volete ma piste come Glen Helen, St Jean d’Angely ecc. rappresentano il vero motocross e sono molto più divertenti e spettacolari anche per il pubblico. Per me Assen è stato il GP peggiore perchè la sicurezza non è stata davvero all’altezza. Comunque penso che un pilota debba essere forte ovunque, inoltre non spetta a noi cambiare e dobbiamo prendere la cosa come viene e fare il nostro meglio. Un mix tra old school e questo nuovo stile di piste può andare bene ma spero non vogliano spingere troppo in questa nuova direzione.

Com’è stato correre sul suolo americano, con i piloti statunitensi? Sono sembrati davvero forti, soprattutto Webb e Tomac, il quale ha dominato in MXGP.
E’ stato divertente, mi sono divertito molto. Un pelo amareggiato per il fatto che loro avevano le moto con le loro specifiche riguardo benzina e scarichi, quindi hanno avuto un piccolo vantaggio. Ma penso che complessivamente i piloti europei non abbiano sfigurato così tanto contro quelli americani. Bisogna anche considerare che Charlotte era una pista in pieno stile americano e Glen Helen è il loro test track di casa.

Pensi che questi risultati cambierebbero sostanzialmente se venissero a correre in Europa sui nostri tracciati?
Penso di si. E’ molto differente ed il setup della moto conta davvero tanto. Avrebbero bisogno di un pò di tempo per il setup e per abituarsi ai nostri piccoli tracciati hard pack.

Da quest’anno il team è gestito da Stefan Everts, come ti trovi con lui?
Mi diverto a lavorare con lui e ci capiamo molto bene. Lui ha molta esperienza e tutto ciò che vuole è il meglio per i suoi piloti ed il suo team. E’ molto severo. Anche se stai facendo bene, lui ti troverà sempre un punto su cui puoi migliorare. Ma mi piace così, è l’unica soluzione per continuare a migliorare.

Le cose sembrano andare davvero bene qui, quindi non sei interessato a correre in USA, vero?
Al momento no. Mi diverto molto a correre, ho un buon team, un buon meccanico, ed un bel gruppo di persone intorno a me, quindi non ho interesse al momento.

Hai firmato recentemente un contratto con Suzuki per il 2017, nella MX2. Pensi che sarà la tua migliore occasione per puntare al Titolo?
Penso proprio di si, perchè sarà il mio ultimo anno in MX2 🙂 ahah! Comunque sono ancora giovane, e come abbiamo visto con Febvre e Gajser, non è impossibile salire in MXGP e vincere! Comunque vediamo di anno in anno e daremo il nostro meglio per provarci. Sarà dura ma mi sento pronto.

Tra pochi giorni ti vedremo al MXON di Maggiora. Il Team Svizzera sembra davvero promettente con te, Guillod e Tonus. Pensi che il podio sia possibile? Quali sono le vostre aspettative?
Si penso che possiamo puntare al podio. Vedremo. L’anno scorso abbiamo finito in 5a posizione ed eravamo senza Arnaud, quindi con un pò di fortuna tutto è possibile.

Hi Jeremy, not so good transfert in the USA for you. By the way you still managed to clinch a good last moto and to secure the 2nd place in World Championship standings. How was this season for you? Like you expected?
I wasn’t happy with those races neither. The goal was to be on the Podium but a lot of bad luck changed plans. In Charlotte i had no front brake in the first moto and other bike problems second moto. Glen Helen I got taken out hard first lap of first moto so had to come back hard. Finally in the second moto i had the chance to show what i am capable of. Second place was already secured in Assen so i didn’t had to worry about. With the whole season in general I’m really happy, the goal was to be in the top 3 and make consistent podiums. I made 10 Podiums and reached this goal with vice world champion title. Of course there are always posibilities to improve too and with some races I’m not happy at all.

Three of the last four rounds were on man-made tracks, in stadiums. What’s your opinion about these tracks and the direction MXGP is taking?
I don’t know. I’m still a fan of old school tracks. You can tell me what you want but something like Glen Helen, St Jean D’Angely etc.. is real Motocross for the riders,way more fun and spectacular for the public too. For me Assen was the worst GP cause the safety of that Track is just not what it should be. Anyway I think a good rider needs to be good everywhere and its not in our hand to change so we have to take it like it is and do our best. And a mix between old school and new style can be fine but I hope they’re not pushing too much in this direction.

How was it to race on the american soil with the AMA riders? They looked really good, especially Webb and Tomac who destroyed the MXGP field.
It was fun. I liked it a lot. Just sad they ‘re on their bikes (fuel, exhaust) so they have quiet a bit of advantage. But I think overall the european riders didn’t look so bad against the US boys if you have also in mind that we were Racing in Charlotte which was a totally American style Track and in glen helen,their home test Track.

Do you think these results would change a lot if they were racing in our tracks in Europe?
I think so. It’s so much different and the bike set up matters a lot. They would need some time for the set up and to get used to the small european hard pack tracks.

Since this year the team is run by Stefan Everts.How is to work with him?
I enjoy working with him and we’re understanding each other really good. He knows a lot of stuff and all he wants is the best for the riders and the team. He is really strict. Even if you’re doing well he will tell you the point which could be better. But I like that, thats the way to get better.

Things go really well here, so you’re not interested in racing in the USA, right?
At the moment not. I have a lot of fun Racing, I have a good team, good mechanic, just a nice group of people around me so I have no interest at the moment.

You recently signed a contract with Suzuki for 2017, in MX2 class. Do you think it will be your best shot at the World title?
Its my last year in MX2 so in MX2 yes i think so 😉 haha! But I mean I’m still young and as we could see with Gajser and Febvre last year it’s not impossible to go to MXGP and win there. But anyway i take year by year and then we gonna give our best to get on top next year. Its a long way but I feel ready for it.

In less than one month, we’ll see you at the MXON in Maggiora. Team Switzerland looks strong with you, Valentin Guillod and Arnaud Tonus. Do you feel the podium is possible? What are your expectations?
Yes I think if we do well we can land on the Podium at the end of the day. Let’s see. Last year we finished 5th without Arnaud so with some luck all is possible there.
