ERNEE (Francia), Settembre 2015 – Anche quest’anno la qualità è stata sollevata non solo all’interno del FIM Motocross World Championship, ma anche in molte altre serie in tutto il mondo, che è il motivo per cui la sessantanovesima edizione del Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni che si svolgerà questo fine settimana in Francia, sta per essere qualcosa di speciale.
Questo fine settimana, trentasette nazioni invieranno un esercito di tre piloti ad Ernée, un luogo iconico in Francia, che celebrerà un decennio da quando il terreno nel 2005 al Motocross delle Nazioni ha catturato il cuore di ogni appassionato di motocross in tutto il mondo quando il Team USA più grande di tutti i tempi con Ricky Carmichael ha messo prestazioni eccezionali a ri-affermare la coppa camerlengo ambita per la squadra di maggior successo MXoN sulla carta, il Team USA.
Ernée è uno delle piste più spettatori nel mondo. L’intera pista è visibile quasi tutta da dove i tifosi saranno a guardare, significa che nemmeno un secondo di azione sarà scrutato, il Team Francia ha il tentativo di difendere la corona sul terreno di casa in quella che dovrebbe essere una delle edizioni più all’avanguardia delle ‘Nazioni’.
Parlando del Team France, è quasi superfluo dire che sono i favoriti per la vittoria quest’anno. La squadra è senza dubbio la più forte line up che abbia mai scelto. Hanno il regnante Motocross Campione del Mondo FIM Romain Febvre nella classe Open, mentre il campione del mondo 2015 e difensore del MXoN dominatrice Gautier Paulin sarà davanti nella MXGP. Mettendo la ciliegina sulla torta per la linea, l’ex campione del mondo MX2 e il campionato nazionale runner-up americano nel 2015, Marvin Musquin.
Intanto Team USA è ancora in cerca di vendetta dopo aver perso la coppa dal Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni 2012 a Lommel, in Belgio. Quest’anno Justin Barcia, un volto familiare, sarà a portare i due ragazzi Jeremy Martin e Cooper Webb. Martin ha debuttato nel MXoN lo scorso anno, ma purtroppo ruppe un piede in un incidente spettacolare attraverso le wave, così lui sarà pronto per il riscatto, mentre Webb ha fatto il suo debutto sulla 450cc lo scorso fine settimana a Glen Helen nella fase finale del FIM Motocross World Championship e sarebbe giusto dire che ha colpito un sacco di gente e fatto girare un sacco di teste. Ha sicuramente il ritmo, quindi, Team USA sarà, come sempre, una delle più forti squadre in lizza.
Gli infortuni hanno preso il sopravvento nella squadra del Belgio, ancora una volta con Clement Desalle fuori per un altro anno, come Kevin Strijbos. Tuttavia, sappiamo che Jeremy Van Horebeek può vincere le gare quando le sue idee sono in linea e lo stesso si può dire per il suo compagno MX2 Julien Lieber. Ken De Dycker è stato selezionato per unirsi a loro all’ultimo minuto e sappiamo che può tirare fuori qualcosa della borsa in caso di necessità, anche se egli sarà in fila, è anche molto arrugginito quest’anno, considerando che ha trascorso gran parte della stagione sul divano.
Un’altra squadra di guardare sarà la Gran Bretagna, gli inglesi inviano una squadra super forte con Shaun Simpson e Max Anstie nella parte superiore del loro gioco in questo momento anche se hanno avuto un leggero spavento quando Simpson è caduto nella gara finale della FIM Motocross World Championship. Lo scozzese, che rappresenterà la Gran Bretagna insieme al compagno Scot e KTM Dean Wilson, ha postato una foto su un Social Media di un ematoma sulla schiena, ma ha confermato che dovrebbe essere a posto per correre.
Per quanto riguarda i tedeschi, Ken Roczen non correrà, ha appena avuto un intervento chirurgico sulla schiena, in modo che entrerà nella battaglia con Max Nagl, Dennis Ullrich e il giovane Henry Jacobi. Nel frattempo, l’Australia si unirà allo show con Todd Waters e Dean Ferris. Per quanto riguarda il loro pilota MX2 Jay Wilson, ma è caduto, sostituito dalla squadra pochi giorni fa e la sostituzione deve ancora essere annunciata.
Aggiungendo anche il brusio che il nazioni sembra manifestare, è squadra Svizzera, che fino alla MXGP dei Paesi Bassi sembrava avere uno delle più forti formazioni sul cancello con Valentin Guillod, Arnaud Tonus e Jeremy Seewer. Purtroppo Tonus è stato ritirato a causa di un problema con la fatica e sostituito con Andy Baumgartner.
C’è sempre una sorta di polemica che conduce il nazioni e quest’anno appartiene agli italiani con la federazione che scelglie di adottare un approccio diverso per il loro processo di selezione delle squadre. Invece di mandare i loro piloti più veloci, il Team Italia ha deciso di inviare una squadra “sviluppo” composta da Ivo Monticelli, Michele Cervellin e Samuele Bernardini per dare ai giovani una certa esperienza in vista del Nazioni 2016 a Maggiora.
L’elenco delle squadre prevede di fare un grande splash al 69° edizione del Monster Energy FIM Motocross delle Nazioni, la gara dell’anno, quella che si non si vuole perdere!

The Olympics of motocross, the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2015
ERNEE (France), 23 September 2015 – This year has taken the cake in terms of quality racing, the bar has been raised not only within the FIM Motocross World Championship but also at many other series around the globe as well, which is why the sixty-ninth edition of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations that will take place this weekend in France, is going to be something special.
This weekend, thirty-seven nations will send an army of three riders to Ernée, an iconic venue in France that will be also celebrating a decade since the ground breaking 2005 Motocross of Nations which captured the hearts of every motocross enthusiast around the world when Team USA’s greatest of all time Ricky Carmichael put in a mind blowing performance to re-claim the coveted chamberlain cup for the most successful MXoN team on paper, Team USA.
Ernée is one of the most spectator friendly tracks in the world. Almost the entire track is visible from where the fans will be watching, which means not a second of action will be missed or spoiled as Team France attempt to defend the crown on home soil in what is expected to be one of the most cutting edge editions of ‘the nations’ ever.
Speaking of Team France, it almost goes without saying that they are the hot favorites for the win this year. The team is arguably the strongest line up they’ve ever selected. They have the reigning FIM Motocross World Champion Romain Febvre in the Open class while the 2015 vice world champion and defending MXoN dominator Gautier Paulin will be leading the way in MXGP. Putting the cherry on the cake for the already stacked line up is the former MX2 world champion and the American national championship runner-up in 2015, Marvin Musquin.
Meanwhile Team USA is still out for revenge after they lost the cup back at the 2012 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations in Lommel, Belgium. This year Justin Barcia, a familiar face, will be leading the two youngsters Jeremy Martin and Cooper Webb. Martin made his MXoN debut last year but unfortunately broke his foot in a spectacular crash through the waves, so he will be out for redemption while Webb made his 450cc debut last weekend in Glen Helen at the final round of the FIM Motocross World Championship and it would be fair to say that he impressed a lot of people and turned a lot of heads. He definitely has the pace, therefore Team USA will, as always, will be one of the strongest teams in contention.
Injuries have taken a toll on Team Belgium once again with Clement Desalle out for yet another year, so too is Kevin Strijbos. Nevertheless, we know Jeremy Van Horebeek can win races when his ducks are in line and the same can be said for his MX2 counterpart Julien Lieber. Ken De Dycker has been selected to join them at the last minute and we know he can pull something out of the bag when needed although he will be lining up very rusty this year considering he has spent most of the season on the couch.
Another team to watch will be Great Britain as the Brits are sending a super strong line up with Shaun Simpson and Max Anstie at the top of their game at the moment although they had a slight scare when Simpson crashed out of the final round of the FIM Motocross World Championship on turn one. The Scot, who will be representing Great Britain along with fellow Scot and KTM rider Dean Wilson, later posted a picture on a Social Media of a gnarly hematoma on his back, but he did confirm that he should be okay to race.
As for the Germans, Ken Roczen won’t be racing since he just had surgery on his back, so they will enter the battle with Max Nagl, Dennis Ullrich and young Henry Jacobi. Meanwhile, Australia will join the show-down with Todd Waters and Dean Ferris. As for their MX2 rider, it was Jay Wilson but he crashed off the team in practice a few days ago and the replacement is yet to be announced.
Also adding to the buzz that the nations seems to manifest is Team Switzerland, who up until the MXGP of The Netherlands looked to have one of the strongest line ups on the gate with Valentin Guillod, Arnaud Tonus and Jeremy Seewer. Unfortunately Tonus has been withdrawn due to a problem with fatigue and replaced with Andy Baumgartner.
There is always some sort of controversy leading into the nations and this year it belongs to the Italians with the federation opting to take a different approach to their team selection process. Rather than sending their fastest riders, Team Italy have decided to send a development squad which is made up of Ivo Monticelli, Michele Cervellin and Samuele Bernardini to give the youngsters some experience ahead of the 2016 Nations at Maggiora.
