FIM Motocross World Championship – MX1 / MX2
LOMMEL (Belgio), 29 luglio 2015 – Le qualifiche di Sabato scorso sono iniziate con un problema a Jeffrey Herlings, un pilota la cui fortuna non poteva andare peggio, ha messo fine alla sua stagione. La squadra Red Bull KTM Factory Racing ha confermato che Jeffrey Herlings non ritornerà dietro al cancello per quest’anno, il che significa che il titolo FIM Motocross MX2 World Championship è pronto per la battaglia, ancora una volta.
Detto questo, è il momento di piazzare le tue scommesse su chi pensi sarà il campione del mondo 2015 MX2, e non dimenticare che la stagione MXGP non è ancora finita. Eccoci quindi nella sabbia implacabile di Lommel per la quattordicesima prova del FIM Motocross World Championship.
Se non avete mai sentito parlare di Lommel, è uno dei tracciati più noti nel mondo per la sua prova di forza fisica, mentale e tecnica e anche per le sue gare della FIM Motocross delle Nazioni, nel 1981, quando gli USA hanno vinto per la prima volta in assoluto, e nel 2012, dove la vittoria è stato rivendicata dai tedeschi.
Lommel ha avuto la sua prima prova del FIM Motocross World Championship nel 1990, e da allora ha ospitato dieci round del FIM Motocross World Championship. Con entrambi i campioni del Red Bull KTM Factory Racing fuori, Antonio Cairoli e Jeffrey Herlings, l’unico pilota ad allinearsi questo fine settimana con una grande vittoria a Lommel è di Monster Energy Kawasaki DRT Max Anstie vincitore MX2 lo scorso anno.
Tutte le classi del Campionato Europeo EMX250, 125, 300 e il Campionato Europeo EMX150 Honda saranno scrhierti questo fine settimana per un altro round dei loro campionati.

Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube Romain Febvre. Il nome quasi dice tutto. Il rookie è in testa al campionato con un massiccio ottantotto punti oltre il connazionale Gautier Paulin. Egli ha condotto il maggior numero di giri, ha vinto il maggior numero di gare e ha preso il maggior numero di grand prix. Proprio quando si pensa che la sabbia sarebbe stata la sua rovina, ha implementato a Kegums al GP di Lettonia il giro più veloce della gara, mentre rimontava nel traffico e poi ha dato a tutti una dimostrazione in gara due per la vittoria.
Parlando di Gautier Paulin, il pilota del Team HRC era mediocre, lo scorso fine settimana, ma dopo il suo dominio sulla sabbia di Valkenswaard, all’inizio di quest’anno, sembrerebbe che Lommel potrebbe essere la sua occasione per guadagnare dei punti su Febvre. Nel frattempo, il suo compagno di squadra Evgeny Bobryshev dovrebbe essere in grado di passare in terza posizione in questo fine settimana, con l’assenza di Tony Cairoli. Bobby non è troppo malandato nella sabbia e potrebbe essere una minaccia globale.
E poi ci sono i local. Rockstar Energy Suzuki Il MXGP Clement Desalle e Kevin Strijbos. Per Desalle, non sarà una gara facile dato che è appena tornato da sette settimane senza la moto a causa delle sue ferite al ginocchio e alla spalla, ma il belga ha detto che va a fare del suo meglio e divertirsi, mentre Strijbos si esibirà come nessuno lo sa, ma è sicuro di dire che ha un colpo per il podio.
Come sarà il nostro nuovo soprannominato ‘Jereman’, Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube Jeremy Van Horebeek che sta lavorando sodo per recuperare le apparizioni sul podio che tanto spesso ha occupato lo scorso anno.
Un altro pilota da guardare sulla sabbia è Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM Shaun Simpson. SS24 ha dimostrato in diverse occasioni che è uno dei principali piloti da sabbia profonda ed è sicuro di venire fuori oscillando questo fine settimana.

Qui è dove tutto diventa eccitante. Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube Valentin Guillod è legato con i punti al pilota Honda Gariboldi Tim Gajser nel Campionato MX2. Entrambi i piloti sono solo ventiquattro punti dietro a Jeffrey Herlings che significa che c’è una buona probabilità che uno di loro venga via con la tabella rossa. Quale dei due? È difficile da dire. Entrambi hanno vinto tre Gran Premi quest’anno e non si sono distinti nella sabbia, quindi è sicuramente un duro lavoro.
Nel frattempo Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Pauls Jonass è a soli dieci punti dietro Guillod e Gajser, il che significa che è anche un pretendente per la tabella rossa. Questa è una buona notizia per chi ama Jonass e certamente nella sabbia è forte, come abbiamo visto in Lettonia quando è andato 2-2 per il secondo posto assoluto. Il giovane lettone ha detto in conferenza stampa lo scorso fine settimana, “Non sto guardando il campionato. KTM non mi ha assunto per vincere il campionato del mondo, mi hanno assunto per guidare e fare esperienza, quindi per me non è importante, voglio solo guidare come meglio posso in ogni gara “.
Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team Jordi Tixier è impaziente della sabbia dopo aver vinto la gara finale al MXGP del Belgio a Lommel lo scorso anno, mentre nessuno è in attesa di più di Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki Max Anstie che ha incenerito tutti nella sabbia di Kegums qualche weekend.
Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube Julien Lieber è un nome conosciuto per la sabbia, quindi siamo fiduciosi di poter mettere insieme alcuni giri veloci mentre il compagno di belga del team Kemea Yamaha Yamalube Brent Van Doninck e di J-Tech Honda Jens Getteman potrebbero anche dire la loro questo fine settimana .

Love it or loath it, Lommel is set to host round 14
LOMMEL (Belgium), 29 July 2015 – This time last week our TV presenter Lisa Leyland welcomed you to the MXGP of Czech Republic with the line “welcome to round thirteen, everything that could have happened… has”. And like her, that is what we thought too, at least before Qualifying on Saturday commenced and Jeffrey Herlings, one rider whose luck couldn’t get any worse, put an end to his season. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing squad has confirmed that Jeffrey Herlings will not be returning to the gate this year, which means the FIM Motocross MX2 World Championship title is ready for the taking, once again.
With that said, it’s time to place your bets on who you think the 2015 MX2 world champion will be, and don’t forget that the MXGP season is also not yet over. So here we are in the unforgiving sand of Lommel for the fourteenth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
If you haven’t heard of Lommel, you have been living under a rock, it is one of the most widely recognized tracks in the world known for its brutal test in physical, mental and technical strength and also for its rounds of the FIM Motocross of Nations, in 1981 when USA won for the first time ever, and in 2012, where victory was claimed by the Germans.
Lommel had its first round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in 1990, and has since hosted ten rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship. With both of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s champions out, Antonio Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings, the only rider to line up this weekend with a grand prix win in Lommel is Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie who won MX2 last year.
All of the European Championship classes EMX250, 125, 300 and the Honda European Championship EMX150 will also be chucking on a set of scoop tires this weekend for yet another round of their championships.
Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre. The name almost says it all. The rookie is leading the championship by a massive eighty-eight points over fellow Frenchman Gautier Paulin. He has led the most laps, won the most races and has taken the most grand prix overalls. Just when you thought the sand would be his undoing, he rolled out in Kegums at the MXGP of Latvia and set the fastest lap of the race while in traffic and then gave everyone a walloping in race two for the win.
Speaking of Gautier Paulin, the Team HRC rider was mediocre last weekend but after his domination in the sand of Valkenswaard earlier this year, it would seem Lommel is more up his alley and could be his chance to chip at Febvre’s points lead. Meanwhile his team mate Evgeny Bobryshev should be able to move into third this weekend with the absence of Tony Cairoli. Bobby is also not too shabby in the sand and could be an overall threat.
And then there are the locals. Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP’s Clement Desalle and Kevin Strijbos. For Desalle, it won’t be an easy race given he has just had seven weeks off the bike due to his knee and shoulder injuries but the Belgian has said he is just going to do his best and have fun, while how Strijbos will perform is anybody’s guess, but it’s safe to say he has a shot at the podium.
As will our newly nicknamed ‘Jereman’, Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Jeremy Van Horebeekwho is working hard to reclaim the spots on the podium he so frequently occupied last year.
Another rider to watch in the sand is Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM’s Shaun Simpson. SS24 has proven on a number of occasions he is one of the main players in deep sand and is sure to come out swinging this weekend.

This is where everything gets exciting. Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Valentin Guillod is tied with Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser for second in the MX2 Championship points chase. Both riders are only twenty-four points shy of Jeffrey Herlings which means that there is a good chance that one of them will come away with the red plate. Which of the two? It’s hard to say. Both have won three grand prix this year and neither have stood out in the sand, so it is definitely a hard one to call.
Meanwhile Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass is just ten points shy of Guillod and Gajser, which means he is also in with a shot at taking away the red plate. That is good news for Jonass who admittedly loves the sand and is usually strong in it, as we saw in Latvia when he went 2 – 2 for second overall. The young Latvian said in the press conference last weekend, “I’m not looking at the championship. KTM didn’t hire me to win the world championship, they hired me to ride and take experience, so for me it’s not important, I just want to ride as good as I can in every race”.
Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jordi Tixier is looking forward to the sand having won the final race at the MXGP of Belgium in Lommel last year, while no one is looking forward to it more than Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie who waxed everyone in the sand of Kegums a few weekends ago and is the most recent MX2 grand prix of Belgium winner.
Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Julien Lieber is a known name in beach racing so we are confident he can put together some fast laps while fellow Belgian’s Kemea Yamaha Yamalube’s Brent Van Doninck and J-Tech Honda’s Jens Getteman could also throw a spanner in the works this weekend.
