WRIST OP FORCES STRIJBOS OUT OF ARGENTINE GP

MXGP FIM World Championship leader Clement Desalle will be the sole Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MXGP rider at Neuquen for the Grand Prix of Argentina this weekend as Kevin Strijbos is to undergo an operation on his troublesome right wrist tomorrow in Belgium.

The 29 year old has been complaining of pain in the joint after suffering tendonitis and having a similar procedure before the start of the season almost four weeks ago in Losail, Qatar. Strijbos has been competing with pain-killing injections and went for an MRI scan on Monday followed by more examinations today (Tuesday) where he was advised to have further corrective surgery. The operation is likely to mean a three-week period of convalescence and the Belgian has a tentative aim to be in action again for the Grand Prix of Trentino (Italy) on April 19th.

“I spoke with the team about the problem and we have decided to get the operation done and try to get back to fitness and speed as soon as possible,” he said. “I’ve been riding with injections and it means I cannot get up to my real speed. I could see that last weekend in the Belgian Championship that something had to be done. I was prepared to go to Argentina this weekend and keep trying to do my best but it is also frustrating for me and the team to be racing like that.”

“I think this way I might be able to come back and get some track time in Italy and then start to build up for Holland and be back to normal,” he added. “I never want to skip races but I know I will be able to get something like 13 good GPs done and still be able to push.”

Bad news: i wont be behind the gate in Argentina this weekend. Got an MRI scan yesterday and it turned out there was to much inflammation in the tendon to continue. From the first international race in hawkstone park i went from weekend to weekend without riding during the week because it was to painfull. At this level its hard to do it like that and to keep fighting with the best guys in the world. So after 2months, 3 injections and a lot of painkillers we decided to get an operation tomorrow to get it fixed. Its a hard decision we made with the team because i felt i had the speed and the championship was still long but this was the best solution in the end. Not sure when i will return to racing. Might be missing italy also. It will all depends from how its going. Dont want to rush things now because the championship is over. I wanna thanks the whole @suzukiworldmxgp team, @yentlhaazen22ks for supporting me with this and for believing in me, also all the people who tried to helped me with this problem. I will be back stronger!!
