Mentre il rivale Ryan Villopoto si allena in Europa ( direi che si sta allenando in Sardegna, più precisamente ad Alghero, come vi avevamo già anticipato, le condizioni meteo sono anche belle toste!!! n.d.r.), il Campione del Mondo MXGP Tony Cairoli ha iniziato quella che sarà sicuramente un memorabile Stagione 2015 in modo adeguato vincendo nella classe Elite del 1° round del Campionato Italiano di apertura a Riola Sardo.

La pista di sabbia è stata sede di alcune temperature fredde e il ventinovenne siciliano ha ammesso che c’era ancora “lavoro da fare”, dopo aver perso la volata nella MX1 contro il pilota Honda Gautier Paulin e sta lavorando anche per tornare in piena forma dopo l’infortunio al ginocchio in un incidente lo scorso ottobre al Motocross delle Nazioni.

“Questa pista è estremamente tecnica ed è sempre bello correre qui nelle gare pre-stagione,” Antonio racconta ”La gara MX1 è stata soddisfacente, anche se forse a causa del freddo ho guidato un po ‘rigido e sono arrivato secondo. Ho provato a vincere negli ultimi giri, ma ho fatto un piccolo errore nel momento decisivo. Chiaramente c’è ancora molto lavoro da fare, ma è normale alla prima gara della stagione. ”

Cairoli ha vinto la manche la Elite di quasi 30 secondi di vantaggio, più tardi nel pomeriggio.”Con la moto mi trovo molto bene, ma sto ancora soffrendo le conseguenze del piccolo infortunio al Motocross delle Nazioni”, ha commentato. ”Non sono al 100 per 100 ancora, ma sto bene e sono consapevole di quello che devo fare per raggiungere le migliori condizioni in Qatar.”

Cairoli sarà presente al Gran Premio di questo fine settimana a Castiglione Del Lago per il secondo round della serie nazionale … ma non dovrà affrontare Villopoto fino al primo Gran Premio in Qatar, che già è annunciata come la gara imperdibile della stagione.

While arch rival Ryan Villopoto is circulating test and practice laps on the same continent MXGP World Champion Tony Cairoli began what will surely be a memorable 2015 racing campaign in suitable fashion by taking victory in the Elite class of the opening round of the Italian Championship last weekend at Riola Sardo.

The sandy track was home to some chilly temperatures and the 29-year-old Sicilian admitted there was still “work to do” after he lost the MX1 sprint to Honda’s Gautier Paulin and is also working his way back to full fitness after hurting his right knee in a massive crash last October at the Motocross of Nations.

“This type track is extremely technical and it is always nice to race here in the pre-season races,” #222 said. “The MX1 race was satisfactory, although perhaps because of the cold I drove a bit stiff and I finished second. I tried to win in the final [laps] but I made a small mistake at the decisive moment. Clearly there is still work to do but it is normal at the first race of the season.”

Cairoli won the Elite moto by almost thirty seconds later in the afternoon. “With the bike I am very well but I’m still suffering the after-effects of the small injury at the Motocross of Nations,” he commented. “I’m not 100 per cent yet but I’m fine and I’m aware of what I have to do to make the best conditions in Qatar.”

Cairoli is expected to line-up against more of his Grand Prix peers this weekend at Castiglione Del Lago for round two of the national series… but will not face Villopoto until the first Grand Prix in Qatar that already is starting to feel like the unmissable race of the season.
