Un lungo anno di preparazione, dalle corse e i test 2015 sono stati recentemente completati da Yamaha Factory Racing come l’operazione run di Michele Rinaldi ha iniziato a rilassarsi verso la pausa natalizia e con un occhio su un fitto calendario gennaio sull’isola in Sardegna.

Campionati Italiani, vittorie della serie belga, eccezionali podi MXGP e una vittoria stellare nel Gran Premio della Repubblica Ceca, nonché una posizione di runner-up per Jeremy Van Horebeek nel suo primo anno sulla YZ450FM sono stati i momenti di standout ’14 … ma non ci volle molto per la squadra italiana per passare i pensieri al programma di diciotto GP il prossimo anno, una volta che il Motocross delle Nazioni ha chiuso la stagione. ‘JVH’ e nuovo compagno di squadra francese Romain Febvre erano i visitatori verso l’Europa meridionale, come il lavoro sul ‘2015 e specifiche del YZ450FM ha avuto luogo. Per Febvre in particolare il primo shakedown con la tecnologia che userà nella sua stagione da rookie nella classe MXGP erano importanti e un secondo test è stato purtroppo interrotto da un piccolo infortunio alla spalla destra che significa poche settimane di tregua da attività in pista.

“Romain ha iniziato con la moto e gli piaceva la YZ450F di produzione e ai test stavamo costruendo la moto da corsa. Lui purtroppo ha avuto un incidente mentre stava facendo alcuni giri è arrivato un piccolo problema. Lui è OK e continua ad allenarsi in palestra, ma abbiamo dovuto fermare il lavoro in sella per un po ‘”, dice il Team Manager Massimo Raspanti. “Ne sapremo di più sul nostro set-up e la direzione di nuovo con lui appena risalirà in sella per poi passare un paio di settimane in Sardegna fino alla prima gara del Campionato Italiano [il 1 ° febbraio sul circuito di Riola Sardo]. Credo che Romain sia andato lì lo scorso anno per la preparazione per un paio di settimane, quindi sa tutto su questo. ”

La Sardegna è oggi l’obiettivo per le prime settimane del 2015 per la squadra. Raspanti: “E ‘un posto tranquillo con alcune piste vicine e il tempo è generalmente buono; una ventina di gradi ogni giorno … anche se può piovere! ”

Van Horebeek intanto ha valutato quello che era un successo della campagna 2014 Grand Prix – il migliore della sua carriera e più prolifico per la squadra dal 2011 e insieme con Raspanti e l’equipaggio guardano la YZ450FM per quello che potrebbe essere fatto in termini di guadagni per il 2015. “Noi ‘ abbiamo cercato di migliorare alcuni punti, ma se si guardano i risultati e le prestazioni di quest’anno, allora mi sento che eravamo già ad un alto livello, “Raspanti dice. “Certo che si desidera ottenere una moto migliore e si conosce la concorrenza, quindi si dovrà lavorare. Abbiamo provato un paio di cose sul motore per rendere le cose più facili per Jeremy, ma anche dargli un po ‘più’ velocità fuori dal cancello. Questo era l’obiettivo delle prove e sono contento di quello che abbiamo ottenuto fino ad ora, anche se non abbiamo fatto cambiamenti radicali. Il Suspension Test sarà il prossimo, ma questo non accadrà fino a metà gennaio quando riceveremo alcune nuove di parti del kit factory. La prima gara del Campionato Italiano sarà parte di quel test e quindi dovremo continuare a lavorare dopo “.

Il 24enne si trova nel bel mezzo del suo piano di preparazione personale in Belgio e sta girando in pista, almeno una volta alla settimana quando il tempo è buono. Van Horebeek starà solo fino alla fine del mese a casa prima di partire per la Sardegna e per la ripetizione del programma di successo di pre-stagione che ha seguito lo scorso gennaio.

Parte della raffinatezza tra JVH e YZ450FM ha coinvolto un osservazione approfondita presso il modo in cui gestisce la Yamaha. “Stavamo guardando la sua posizione di guida e l’analisi del bilanciamento della moto”, dice Raspanti. “Lui guida basso ma abbiamo suggerito alcuni lavori sul retro rispetto all’anteriore facendo alcuni guadagni quando si tratta delle sue sensazioni.”

L’ ‘YFR’ si concentra nuovamente sulla classe regina con solo due piloti per la prima volta dalla stagione 2009 e con le circostanze interessanti intorno entrambi gli atleti: Van Horebeek sta cercando di fare il passo ed essere un contendente al titolo mentre Febvre cercherà di tracciare un percorso e imitare il suo compagno di squadra, Steven Frossard, David Philippaerts e Joshua Coppins insieme a tutti hanno creato un impatto considerevole nelle loro prime campagne come piloti Yamaha con la YZ450F.

A long year of preparation, racing and 2015 testing was recently completed by Yamaha Factory Racing as the Michele Rinaldi-run operation started to wind down towards the Christmas break and with one eye on a busy January schedule on the island of Sardinia.

Italian Championships, Belgian series race wins, outstanding MXGP podium streaks and a stellar victory at the Grand Prix of Czech Republic as well as a runner-up position for Jeremy Van Horebeek in his first term on the YZ450FM were the standout moments of ’14…but it did not take long for the Italian crew to switch thoughts to the eighteen round GP schedule next year once the Motocross of Nations wrapped. ‘JVH’ and new team-mate Frenchman Romain Febvre were visitors to southern Europe as work on the ’15 spec of the YZ450FM took place. For Febvre in particular the first shakedowns with the technology he’ll use in his rookie season in the premier MXGP class were important and a second test was unfortunately interrupted by a small right shoulder injury that means a few weeks respite from track action.

“Romain started off with – and liked – the production YZ450F and at the test we were building up with the race bike. He unluckily had a crash while doing some laps and a little problem. He is OK and is continuing to train in the gym but we had to stop riding for a while,” says Team Manager Massimo Raspanti. “We’ll know more about our set-up and direction when we ride with him again and then spend a few weeks in Sardinia up until the first race of the Italian Championship [on February 1st at the Riola Sardo circuit]. I believe Romain went there last year for training for a couple of weeks so he knows all about it.”

Sardinia is now the goal for the first weeks of 2015 duties for the team. Raspanti: “It is a quiet place with a few tracks close together and the weather is usually good; around twenty degrees each day…although it can rain!”

Van Horebeek meanwhile assessed what was a successful 2014 Grand Prix campaign – the best of his career and most prolific for the team since 2011 – and together with Raspanti and the crew looked at the YZ450FM for what gains could be made for 2015. “We’ve tried to improve on some points but if you look at the results and performances this year then I feel we were already at a high level,” Raspanti offers. “Of course you want to get better and you know the competition will be working as well. We have tried a few things on the engine to make things easier for Jeremy but also give him a bit ‘more’ out of the gate. That was the goal from the tests and I’m pleased with what we achieved so far even if we did not make any radical changes. Suspension tests will be next but that won’t happen to the middle of January when we receive some new parts on the factory kit. The first Italian Championship race will be part of that test and then we’ll continue to work afterwards.”

The 24 year old is in the midst of his personal training plan in Belgium and is hitting the track at least once a week – when the weather is kind. Van Horebeek only has until the end of the month at home before he also decamps to Sardinia and for a repeat of the successful pre-season schedule that he negotiated last January.

Part of the refinement between JVH and the YZ450FM has involved an in-depth observation at the way he handles the Yamaha. “We were looking at his riding position a little bit and analysing the balance of the bike,” Raspanti says. “He rides it low but we suggested some work on the back compared to the front and made some gains when it comes to his feeling.”

‘YFR’ are focussing again on the premier class with just two riders for the first time since the 2009 season and with interesting circumstances around both athletes: Van Horebeek is looking to make the step into being an authentic title contender while Febvre will be trying to blaze a path and mimic his team-mate, Steven Frossard, David Philippaerts and Josh Coppins who all created a sizeable impact in their first campaigns as Yamaha riders with the YZ450F.
