Pietramurata (Trentino) 4 aprile 2018 – Il Campionato MXGP è arrivato in Italia questo fine settimana per l’ MXGP del Trentino presso il bellissimo circuito di Pietramurata! La pista è stata una tappa del campionato MXGP negli ultimi anni la cui superficie è difficile contro le Dolomiti Mountain e porta sempre a incredibili corse. L’anno scorso non ha fatto eccezione, come italiano MXGP superstar Antonio Cairoli è tornato in maniera drammatica passando i corridori migliori nel mondo giro dopo giro a rubare la vittoria su Tim Gajser.

Non solo Cairoli e Gajser saranno di nuovo faccia a faccia, ma per entrambi sarà imballato con i propri fan rendendo il viaggio appetitoso. La comunità di motocross italiano sarà senza dubbio per sostenere Cairoli come titolare della tabella rossa di nuova nomina nel suo GP di casa, in azione con un motivato Jeffrey Herlings, Clement Desalle, Romain Febvre, e Gautier Paulin, tra gli altri. Inoltre le stelle della MX2 in lotta per la supremazia tra cui l’ imbattuto Pauls Jonass, difende il vincitore GP Jorge Prado, Darian Sanayei, Thomas Kjer Olsen, Hunter Lawrence, e più in quello che è un enorme bacino di giovani talenti.

La corsa di questo fine settimana comprenderà anche le prime gare del Campionato del Mondo di Motocross femminile FIM con il Campione del Mondo 5 volte in Italia, Kiara Fontanesi, insieme ad altri pezzi grossi, come Courtney Duncan, Nancy Van de Ven, e anche alcuni nuovi arrivati, come Avrie Berry dagli Stati Uniti. Accanto alla MXGP, MX2, e campionati del mondo WMX sarà il secondo round di EMX125 che vanta un incredibile elenco di iscritti con 97 rider, tra cui Rene Hofer che ha preso le vittorie doppie nella gara iniziale della stagione a Valkenswaard.

Questo fine settimana nella classe regina MXGP Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Jeffrey Herlings cercherà di fare una prestazione ottima con il suo principale rivale e compagno di squadra Antonio Cairoli col GP di casa per Cairoli.

Cairoli ha avuto una rimonta miracolosa qui nel 2017, ma fino ad ora nel 2018 è stato Herlings che sta combattendo la sua strada attraverso il gruppo. Negli ultimi 5 anni Cairoli ha vinto la MXGP in Trentino 3 volte con un secondo nel 2015 dopo la sua peggior performance coll 5° l’anno precedente. Herlings ha un record simile nella classe MX2 con 3 vittorie e un secondo, ma l’anno scorso nella sua stagione rookie MXGP ha preso l’8°.

3° nel campionato 2018 MXGP dopo i primi 3 round della stagione è Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team Clement Desalle. Desalle ha la coerenza che paga finora, ma di soli 5 punti è separato dal Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP pilota Romain Febvre e Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Gautier Paulin.

Desalle ha terminato nella top 5 in 3 deelle sue 4 apparizioni trentine, tra cui la vittoria assoluta nel 2014, tuttavia la sua peggior performance sul circuito è arrivata solo l’anno scorso con il 6°. Nel frattempo Febvre non ha mai vinto qui, ma è venuto vicino nel 2016 quando ha finito secondo assoluto segnando il suo miglior risultato appena un anno prima di segnare il suo peggiore durante il 2017 con l’arresto al 13° posto. Paulin è un altro pilota che ha mancato il bersaglio sui suoi 5 precedenti GP a Pietramurata, il francese ha avuto il suo miglior risultato nel 2013, quando ha preso l’ultimo posto sul podio.

Un pilota da tenere a mente questo fine settimana è del Team HRC Tim Gajser. Gajser ha strettamente perso la vittoria a causa della magnifica rimonta di Cairoli lo scorso anno dopo aver preso il terzo nel 2016 e vincendo il GP nel 2015. Per non dimenticare che questo è anche il più vicino GP di casa per Gajser e ha molti fan sloveni con il breve viaggio per tifare l’idolo MX.

Un altro pilota da sottolineare è il pilota di Marchetti che ha appena firmato con Benoit Paturel e potremmo vederlo in sella qui per Marchetti nel suo anno da rookie MXGP.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team Julien Lieber potrebbe stupire di nuovo questo fine settimana come ha fatto già molte volte in questa stagione, soprattutto se si considera che era sul podio MX2 in Trentino solo un anno fa.

Nel frattempo nella MX2 le cose sono sempre più accese tra l’imbattuto Pauls Jonass Red Bull KTM Factory Racing e Jorge Prado che sta girando per la sua prima vittoria del 2018. La corsa è stata continuamente più stretta dopo il week-end tra la coppia e solo un anno fa Jorge Prado ha vinto il suo primo GP qui.

Guardando il più probabile inizio di successo per KTM in MX2 nel 2018 cìè BIKE IT DRT Kawasaki Darian Sanayei e Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Thomas Kjer Olsen.

Mentre Olsen è stato coerente e ha spostato lentamente la sua strada più vicina al vantaggio di Jonass con il suo trio di podi, Sanayei è stato più veloce che mai. Per Sanayei piccoli singhiozzi e malfunzionamenti in moto lo hanno lasciato prendere i risultati a fatica, è chiaramente in grado di fare bene. Per Olsen questo GP riporterà bei ricordi, come ha segnato un 4° qui l’anno scorso in quella che era la sua stagione da rookie MX2.

Honda 114 Motorsport Hunter Lawrence è anche alla ricerca per la sua prima vittoria del 2018 con la sua nuova squadra. Lawrence non solo vuole fare bene, ma ha anche bisogno di migliorare il suo 2017 al GP del Trentino con un 16° assoluto se vuole lottare per il titolo MX2.

Legato per il 5° nella classifica di campionato MX2 a 81 punti è di Hitachi KTM UK Conrad Mewse e Kemea Yamaha Racing Team Yamalube della MX2 Ben Watson. Entrambi sono stati sul gas finora quest’anno, ma con 17 gare alla fine in questo fine settimana, gli inglesi dovranno lavorare per mantenere il passo degli altri piloti di testa.

PIETRAMURATA (Trentino) 4 April 2018 – MXGP championship has arrived to Italy this weekend for the MXGP of Trentino at the beautiful Pietramurata circuit! The track has been a stop of the MXGP championship the past several years whose hard pack surface set against the Dolomite Mountain range always leads to amazing racing. Last year was no exception as Italian MXGP superstar Antonio Cairoli came back in dramatic fashion passing the top racers in the world lap after lap to steal the over win from Tim Gajser.

Not only will Cairoli and Gajser again face off again but for both it will be packed with their fans making the trip. The Italian motocross community will without doubt come out to support Cairoli as the newly appointed red plate holder in his home GP but joining in the action is a motivated Jeffrey Herlings, Clement Desalle, Romain Febvre, and Gautier Paulin among others. Plus the stars of MX2 will fight for supremacy including the unbeaten Pauls Jonass, defending GP winner Jorge Prado, Darian Sanayei, Thomas Kjer Olsen, Hunter Lawrence, and more in what is a huge pool of young talent.

This weekend’s racing will also include the first races of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championshipfeaturing the 5 time World Champion from Italy, MXFonta Yamaha’s Kiara Fontanesi, along with other heavy hitters such as Altherm Yamaha’s, Courtney Duncan, NoFear Yamaha’ s Nancy Van de Ven, and even some newcomers such as Avrie Berry from the United States. Alongside the MXGP, MX2, and WMX World Championships will be the second round of EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing boasting an incredible 97 rider entry list, including KTM Junior Racing’s Rene Hofer who took double race victories to start the season at Valkenswaard.

 

This weekend in the premier MXGP class Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings will be looking to make a statement and top his main rival and teammate Antonio Cairoli at Cairoli’s home GP.

Cairoli had a miraculous comeback here in 2017 but so far in 2018 it has been Herlings who is fighting his way through the pack. In the past 5 years Cairoli has won the MXGP in Trentino 3 times with a second in 2015 after his worst finish of 5th the year prior. Herlings has a similar record in the MX2 class with 3 wins and a second, but last year in his rookie MXGP season he took 8th.

3rd in the 2018 MXGP Championship after the first 3 rounds of the season is Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle. Desalle consistency has paid of so far but only 5 points separate himself from the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider Romain Febvre and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin.

Desalle has finished in the top 5 in 3 of his 4 Trentino appearances including the overall win in 2014, however his worst performance on the circuit came just last year with 6th. Meanwhile Febvre has never won here but came close in 2016 when he finished second overall marking his best result just one year before scoring his worst during the 2017 stop with 13th place. Paulin is another rider who has missed the mark on his 5 previous Pietramurata outings, the Frenchman had his best finish back in 2013 when he took the final spot on the podium.

One rider to keep in mind this weekend is Team HRC’s Tim Gajser. Gajser just narrowly lost out on the win due to the magnificent Cairoli comeback last year after taking third in 2016 and winning the GP in 2015. Not to forget is that this is also the closest to a home GP Gajser has with many Slovenian fans making the short trip to cheer on the MX idol.

Another rider to point out is the newly signed Marchetti Racing KTM rider, Benoit Paturel as we might see him riding here for Marchetti racing in his rookie MXGP season.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Julien Lieber could impress again this weekend as he has done already many times this season, especially when you consider that he was on the Trentino MX2 podium only one year ago.

Meanwhile in the MX2 category things are getting more heated between Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s unbeaten Pauls Jonass and Jorge Prado who is shooting for his first win of 2018. The racing has continually been tighter weekend after weekend between the pair and only one year ago Jorge Prado won his very first GP here.

Looking the most likely to throw a wrench KTM MX2’s  successful start to 2018 is BIKE IT DRT Kawasaki’s Darian Sanayei and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen.

While Olsen has been consistent and inched his way closer to the lead of Jonass with his trio of podiums, Sanayei has been faster than ever. For Sanayei small hiccups and bike malfunctions have left the American struggling to take the results which he is clearly capable of. For Olsen this GP will bring back fond memories as he placed 4th here last year in what was his rookie MX2 season.

Honda 114 Motorsport’s Hunter Lawrence is also looking for his first victory of 2018 with his new team. Lawrence will not only want to but also need to improve on his 2017 performance at the Trentino GP of 16th overall if he wants to contend for the MX2 title.

Tied for 5th in the MX2 championship standings at 81 points a pair is Hitachi KTM UK’s Conrad Mewse and Kemea Yamaha Yamalube Racing Team MX2’s Ben Watson. Both have been on the gas so far this year but with 17 rounds remaining including this weekend the Brits will have to work to keep the pace of the other front runners.
